Who I am
My name is Corinthia M. Yancey, and I am a public safety leader, business owner, and candidate for Mayor of Reno with experience supporting large-scale operations that serve thousands of residents and visitors every day.
Raised in a military household as an only child, I developed a strong sense of discipline, independence, and responsibility early in life. These values continue to guide my leadership style, focused, resilient, and grounded in serving my community.
I have worked in high-demand environments, helping oversee safety, compliance, and workforce coordination across teams of hundreds, bringing structure, accountability, and real-world leadership to complex systems.
Leadership is defined by the families we protect and the future we build together, not by the titles we hold.
Experience
My background includes leadership in transit security operations serving over 100,000 riders, where I contributed to policy development, emergency response coordination, and workforce oversight in a 24/7 environment.
I have:
- Supported large-scale contracts valued in the millions
- Helped manage operations involving 300+ personnel
- Developed standard operating procedures and compliance structures
- Worked alongside unions, leadership teams, and regulatory bodies
- Earned certifications including FEMA and OSHA
- Built and operates a woman-owned security company in Nevada
I am the owner of a recognized woman-owned business certified as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE), Emerging Small Business (ESB), and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), demonstrating my commitment to economic inclusion and opportunity.
I serve on the Southern Business Advisory Council Board, contributing to discussions and recommendations that impact funding and opportunities for small, minority, and woman-owned businesses. I also serve on Northern county boards, gaining firsthand experience in local government processes, property tax assessments, and public decision-making.
My experience is rooted in action, accountability, and results.
Community Connection
As a Nevada resident and business owner, I understand the real challenges facing Reno, from public safety concerns to the struggles of small businesses and the need for good-paying jobs that help families grow and thrive.
I bring a grounded, real-world perspective shaped by working directly in the communities I now seek to serve.
Family Roots: A Legacy of Dedication
My aunt, Karen Joy Simmons-Watson, set the standard for what it means to be a proven leader. She taught me to be a voice for the voiceless and to lift up those facing the world’s harshest judgments. Her journey showed me that greatness requires more than faith alone; it requires the strength to act for a community that depends on its leaders.
Turning Point
After experiencing personal loss and witnessing gaps in systems meant to protect and serve people, I made the decision to step forward, not just to advocate, but to lead.
That experience strengthened my commitment to accountability, transparency, and ensuring that no family, gender, or community is overlooked.
Why I Am Running
Reno deserves leadership that understands both the systems that keep a city running and the people who depend on them every day.
I am running for Mayor to:
- Strengthen public safety
- Support small businesses and local economic growth
- Increase accountability in leadership
- Bring real solutions backed by real experience.
Reno Deserves Results
DIFFERENTIATION – I bring hands-on experience in public safety operations, workforce leadership, and business ownership, not just policy discussions.
I understand how decisions impact real people because I have worked on the front lines of those systems.
