Candidate Policy Proposal

Reno Housing Stability & Fair Housing Initiative

Housing Reframe: Prevention Before Crisis

The most effective and cost-efficient way to address homelessness is to prevent it before a crisis occurs. By identifying and supporting at-risk residents early, we can ensure housing stability for all members of our community.

Early Warning Signs of Housing Instability:

Job loss, medical emergencies, rent increases, eviction filings, domestic violence, mental health challenges, and fixed-income seniors facing rising costs.

Housing Stability & Homelessness Prevention

Goals
Potential Actions
  • Reduce eviction rates across Reno.
  • Identify high-risk households earlier.
  • Streamline access to emergency assistance.
  • Increase long-term housing retention.
  • Expand eviction diversion programs with legal aid.
  • Launch a community-wide early warning data system.
  • Coordinate public-private emergency rent funds.
  • Provide landlord-tenant mediation services.
  • Implement short-term housing subsidies for crisis prevention.
  • Increase support for social services at housing hubs.
Workforce Housing

The workers who serve our city — teachers, first responders, and service employees — increasingly struggle to afford to live in the community they serve. We must expand opportunities for housing near employment centers to ensure a balanced Reno.

Support Initiatives:

  • Workforce housing density and tax incentives.
  • Employer-assisted housing partnerships.
  • First-time homebuyer education for local workers.
  • Zoning for mixed-use housing near employment hubs.

Policy Proposal

Reno Transparency, Ethics & Accountability Initiative

Government Reframe: Restoring Public Trust

Restoring Reno's faith in city hall requires a radical commitment to transparency and ethical oversight. This initiative ensures every decision is made in the light and every official is held accountable to the residents they serve.

Key Priorities
  • Streamlined public access to city budget expenditures and contract bidding processes online.
  • Establishing an independent citizens' oversight committee for major infrastructure projects.
  • Implementing monthly town hall meetings to directly address resident concerns and feedback.
Ethics & Public Trust

We will introduce a strict ethics code for all city officials, including mandatory disclosure of potential conflicts of interest on all voting matters. This ensures that Reno's leadership remains focused on community needs rather than private benefits.

Furthermore, we will strengthen whistleblower protections to encourage the reporting of waste, fraud, or abuse within city departments, fostering a culture of integrity and accountability throughout city government.

Expected Outcomes
  • Increased resident participation in city governance and decision-making processes.
  • Greater efficiency and transparency in how taxpayer dollars are allocated and spent.
  • A significant reduction in ethical complaints and a measurable rise in public trust scores.
